Creative Arts Therapy : Group Work

What to expect in Group Therapy

Art Psychotherapy or Music Therapy in a group context can offer a powerful platform for emotional connection expression and insight. The creative process within a group process fosters peer connection, empowerment and insight. Creative therapy groups offer a consistent space with which to engage, share and work through challenging thoughts and emotions. Creative Arts Therapy groups maintain set boundaries (as regards amount of weeks and participant attendance, confidentiality etc). Groups are held and supported by experienced IACAT accredited therapists. Participants do not need to feel skilled at art, there is no judgement or expectation.

Soearth Projects integrate nature the work. This allows for sensory engagement and regulation of potential anxiety. This can be offered in conjunction with the creative therapeutic process.

Sessions facilitate an open and non-threatening space for creating and exploring. The therapist might offer (dependent on the group) themes, prompts or creative exercises during the start of the session. Groups can vary in approach and member size. Groups typically run weekly and rotate in a cycle of 6-10 weeks.  As with any psychotherapeutic group, core principles of confidentiality and mutual respect are contracted between group members on commencement of therapy. Art Psychotherapy groups address a number of mental health challenges, these include :

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Loss, bereavement

  • Chronic pain

  • Addiction

  • Eating disorders
