Creative Arts Therapy for Youth

Our service host therapists that have specialisms in Child and Adolescents.

Art, music and play are the most accessible and non-threatening way for a child or adolescent to communicate his/her thoughts and feelings. When a young person/child is absorbed in an art making process/play they are engaged in working through feelings/scenarios experienced in their life. The use of creative mediums within the therapeutic context provides an effective platform for expression of difficulties. These conflicts can be shared and explored safely with the therapist.

The therapeutic framework applied through this approach helps a child develop self-awareness, self-identity and processing/resolution of challenges.

“It is in playing and only in playing that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self.”

Donald Woods Winnicott, Playing and Reality
